On Initiation & Lineage

There is much talk these days of initiation. Everyone is performing them for just about anything one can imagine; some people even offer initiations through computer screens, but their promises of great powers and enlightenment go sorely unmet.
What IS initiation anyway? Ancient teachings describe initiation as a direct and physical handing down of power through lineage and authority empowering the individual’s ability to hold light (power) and to connect with clarity and understanding to the beings and energies associated with that lineage.
So what is lineage? Lineage is a delicately, and specifically structured handing down of information (most commonly associated with the “oral” traditions) and initiations performed through a direct and traceable line of teacher to student (from the first authorized teacher through that lineage to the current authorized teacher through that lineage).
The length of time something has been accepted and handed down through the lineage, determines its power and impact. So if a lineage is 200 years old and there is a specific teaching or healing solidly associated with that lineage, it carries 200 years of strength and energy behind it. Changing it in any way can dissipate its affectivity and at the very least, takes it outside the power and authority of the lineage. Basically, it goes back to ground zero, day one of year one.
So why seek initiation? Association with any lineage, whether it is that of your family tree, university, company or spiritual organization is a powerful thing. Far beyond the individual’s need to be accepted or to belong, true initiation and the very act of seeking it, is a personal and private decision that will awaken the very nature of your being.
The powerful connections formed through the act of initiation alone, shake the foundation of an individual’s existence. Doors open, lights come on and the process of personal awakening begins on a new level.
Each level of initiation strips away threads that form our emotional and physical attachments, allowing us to grow exponentially. This growth is determined not by the initiation alone, but by how we incorporate the initiatory energies into our daily lives. The increased awareness facilitated by initiation allows us to live in the NOW and be present in our lives and relationships!
Why does initiation need to be done in person? We are physical beings. We are here to experience the physical existence as we harmonize with our spiritual existence! Physical initiation, therefore, becomes a vital process, done only by those who carry the appropriate authority. For with this authority come keys, protection, knowledge, honor and the lineage behind the initiation.
Initiation is no frivolous thing. If it is something you seek, do your research and meditation around it. Look to the people in whose footsteps you would follow, and make an appraisal of the fruits of their trees. If the fruit is healthy and plentiful, the lineage is healthy and strong!
Initiation is not about power, although power certainly comes through a legitimate lineage. Initiation is about individual empowerment and growth!
